Chiang Mai Explorer 6: Ban Huai Lan Community

Get up close and personal with everyday life in this farming community, where village life, culture and nature are closely linked.

You drive to the village of Ban Pong Huai Lan and are warmly welcomed by the residents. You will visit the Huai Lan Research and Development Project and Reservoir and the Grandma Som's Farm and see the cultivation of rice, organic (vegetable) crops and herbs and the production of cotton. Then enjoy a delicious local lunch. At the Huai Lan Hand Woven Textiles Center in Ban Pong, fabrics are manufactured using spinning wheel and looms. You will have a demonstration of traditional Thai crafts and crafts such as making decorative elements with fish and bird patterns, wickerwork using natural materials such as cane, rattan, bamboo, coconut palm and pandanus leaves. Finally, you will learn how to prepare “Kanom-Khee-Maeo”, a local delicacy of rice, coconut, and fresh herb juice. At around 4:00 PM, drive back to Chiang Mai.
